Solar Roof: The Application of Organic Solar Cells for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics, PI Pavel Troshin

In the present project, we will pursue the development and subsequent commercialization of organic solar cells (OSCs) integrated in construction elements of buildings such as roof or facades. The buildingintegrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems serve simultaneously as building envelope construction components and power generators thus providing savings in materials and electricity costs, reduce usage of fossil fuels and emission of ozone depleting gases, and add architectural interest to the building. OSCs represent the most promising platform for BIPV, since they have advantages of lightweight, low cost, easy fabrication, mechanical flexibility, semitransparency and possibility for color turning, thus making easy customized aesthetic designs.
